Accessibility statement
RestRating exists to make restrooms more accessible, so the website has to be accessible too. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
Built-in tools
Open the Accessibility button at the top of any page, or press Alt + A. Your choices are remembered on this device.
- Text size — four sizes up to 150%, without breaking the layout.
- High contrast and dark mode — for low vision, glare and light sensitivity.
- Readable font and spacing — Atkinson Hyperlegible (designed by the Braille Institute) and wider letter, word and line spacing for dyslexia.
- Highlight links and focus — makes every link, and your keyboard position, easy to see.
- Read aloud — hear text and controls as you hover or tab to them, or read a whole page. If you use a screen reader such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver or TalkBack, leave this off.
- Voice search — tap the microphone in the search box (in supported browsers).
- Bigger buttons and large cursor — for tremors, limited dexterity or touch use.
- Stop animations — removes motion. We also follow your device’s “reduce motion” setting.
- Wheelchair-accessible places only — every search is filtered for you.
How the site is built
- Every page starts with a “Skip to main content” link and uses proper headings and landmarks.
- Everything works with a keyboard alone; focus is always visible.
- Star ratings are read out as text, such as “Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars”.
- Maps are optional: every result on a map is also in the list, with its address and distance.
- Forms have visible labels, explain errors in words, and link straight to the field that needs fixing.
- Colors meet WCAG AA contrast, and nothing relies on color alone.
- Sign-in codes can be pasted, and fill in automatically on most phones.
Known limitations
- The map tiles come from OpenStreetMap and may not be fully readable by screen readers — use the list instead.
- Reviews are written by the community; we can’t guarantee every reviewer describes accessibility features accurately.
- The optional “I am human” check is provided by Cloudflare.
